Dr Jerry

Dr Jerry Vernon has 40 years of full-time computer & laptop Solutions experience and knowledge, also assisting National & International IT Service Providers onsite in the UK.

Jerry is married to Kathy (1986) and has two daughters Sarah (1987) & Claire (1989) and two grandsons

He is DBS (formly CRB) checked (updated July 2024) and Certified & HMRC Registered & Insured.

He was introduced to computers in his final year of secondary school. During a Royal Naval career (1978-1985), computers the size of rooms controlled the ships propulsion, air conditioning, radar & 2016 Sonar and missile systems, but typewriters were still the order of the day for office tasks. 

Jerry also studied for a Amateur Radio Cerificate via a correspondence Course while in the Royal Navy. He carried a suit case of tools and could often be found repairing ship mates personal electronic devices.

Sinclaire ZX81

His introduction to the world of personal computers came with the purchase of a Sinclaire ZX81 in 1981 (now in the wardrobe) which plugged into a portable black and white TV and used a casette recorder to load and save data.

Windows 3.1 operating system was released in 1992, as I began studying at Ruskin College Oxford, using a tax rebate that year, he purchase a IBM compatible 386DX computer, with Windows 3.1, Microsoft Works installed, a black and white 12" screen and a dot matrix printer from Morgan Computers at Five ways Birmingham.

He started designing websites, posters and fliers for student events He started setting up and fixing other students computers and showing them how to use them.

Jerry then worked in education developing early computer courses and delivering training. He has taught business, health & safety and IT for more than 20 years.

Jerry MA Warwick uni

While studying for a Masters at University of Warwick, his parents contributed towards the purchase of a Toshiba Laptop computer T1900 (£1,099) which again Jerry still has, windows 3.1 using Microsoft Works and Pressworks. He completed a PhD in 2014 in Business & IT.

His computer engineering skills have been professionally development over 40 years, designing many courses.From the early days of Windows 3.1 (1992) to Windows 98 (1998), XP (2001), Vista (2004), Windows 7 (2009), 8/8.1 (2012) and Windows 10 (2015 )to the new Windows 11 (2020).
